Gilly Pitman Bio & Exhibitions

Gilly studied drawing in numerous formal workshops and settings and has been coached by a number of professional artists and crafts people.

She believes that drawing is an essential skill that underpins the artistic process and is fundamental to the creation of great works of art.

Much of Gilly’s work over the last few years has been inspired by great artists like the legendary Picasso, whose works are subject of unending analysis, gossip, dislike and adoration. Many of her previous works are in her way a tribute to the women who gave away their identity and freedom which through their selfless acts gave inspiration to much of Picasso’s work and genius.

Gilly has developed her own unique method by the use of silk and stitch as her paint box, all her pictures are drawn on loose canvas and the hand stitched – in her work Guernica there are over 500,000 individual stitches (now in private collection).
